Hairy Vetch is an old standby known mostly for reliable nitrogen production, commonly upwards of 200lb/ac. Its spring growth can be very vigorous and outcompete weeds. Once killed this mat will also help to suppress weeds. Hairy vetch is a good fit as a monoculture or in a mix- especially cereal crops.
